Everything MonitorFlare needs — free on Cloudflare
MonitorFlare runs 100% on the Cloudflare Free plan: edge compute, a SQL database, object storage and static hosting — with a $0 bill that never changes.
What the free plan includes
Every product MonitorFlare touches has a generous free allowance — reset automatically, billed at $0.
Workers — edge compute
- 100,000 requests per day, resetting at UTC midnight
- 10 ms CPU and 128 MB memory per invocation — plenty for monitoring checks
D1 — SQL database
- 5 GB storage · 5M rows read · 100K rows written per day
- Stores monitors, incidents, maintenance windows and subscribers
R2 — object storage
- 10 GB with zero egress fees
- Optional encrypted D1 backups stay inside your account
Pages — static hosting
- Unlimited static assets · 500 builds per month
- Serves your public status page at 300+ edge locations
Workers KV — cache
- 1 GB storage · 100K reads / 1K writes per day
- A handy cache layer if you self-host other apps too
CDN · SSL · DNS — the baseline
- Free Universal SSL certificates, DDoS protection and global CDN
- 1,000 DNS records included on the free plan
MonitorFlare vs. the free limits
Every MonitorFlare component has a comfortable margin inside the free tier.
| Component | Cloudflare product | Free allowance |
|---|---|---|
| API, cron checks & webhooks | Workers | 100,000 requests / day |
| Monitor data & status page config | D1 | 5 GB · 5M reads / day |
| Public status page | Pages + Workers | Unlimited static · 100K req / day |
| Optional backups | R2 | 10 GB · zero egress |
Staying inside the free tier
MonitorFlare is tuned for the free plan out of the box — a few habits keep it that way.
Check intervals are free
One monitor checked every 5 minutes uses ~288 requests/day — 0.3% of the 100,000 quota.
D1 stays lean
Only recent events and configuration are stored; old incidents can be pruned from settings.
Backups are optional
R2 snapshots are compressed and encrypted — a few MB per backup, well inside 10 GB.
The status page is cached
Static assets are served by the Cloudflare CDN at the edge — they do not consume Worker quota.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Cloudflare Free plan really free?
Yes. The Free plan costs nothing and requires no credit card. Workers, D1, R2 and Pages each include generous daily or monthly allowances that reset automatically.
Which limit will I hit first?
For most users, the Workers quota — 100,000 requests per day, shared by API calls, cron checks and webhooks. MonitorFlare’s default check intervals consume only a small fraction of it.
What happens if a limit is exceeded?
Workers return a 1027 error and stop serving until the quota resets at UTC midnight. D1 and R2 reject additional reads or writes. Nothing is ever charged — you simply wait for the reset or upgrade.
Do I need to upgrade to run MonitorFlare?
No. MonitorFlare is designed to run entirely on the free plan. Upgrade only if your traffic outgrows 100,000 requests per day — the code is identical.
Does MonitorFlare use paid Cloudflare features?
No. It uses Workers, D1, Pages and optionally R2 — all included in the free plan. No Durable Objects, no paid observability, no add-ons.
Can I scale beyond the free plan?
Yes. Workers Paid starts at $5/month and Cloudflare Pro at $20/month. The same deployment keeps working — limits simply get much larger.
